Alongside my work in healthcare and technology, I spent a significant part of my career in higher education.
I served as a professor for multiple colleges and universities, teaching Health Information Management and Health Informatics coursework in both traditional classroom and online environments.
My teaching experience included subjects such as medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medical billing and coding, healthcare compliance, health information systems and related HIM disciplines.
I later expanded into curriculum consulting for universities developing or enhancing Health Information Management and Health Informatics programs.
My work went beyond teaching an existing course. I designed complete academic courses and curriculum packages, including course objectives, syllabi, assignments, examinations, instructional content, learning activities and textbook selection. The finished curriculum could then be delivered to faculty members who taught the course to their students.
I also served as a student mentor, working directly with bachelor's and master's degree students to identify and remove barriers that were preventing them from completing their Health Information Management or Health Informatics programs.
Those experiences strengthened skills that continue to shape how I lead today: communication, coaching, simplifying complex concepts, understanding different audiences and helping people move from uncertainty to action.
